Samuel McIntire papers, 1749-1822.

These papers consist primarily of bills and receipts plus architectural drawings of Samuel McIntire, the Salem, Mass., architect and wood-carver. Included are items relating to many other members of the McIntire family who all worked in carpentry and the building trades, including Angier, John, Joseph (1727-1777), Joseph (1748-1825), Joseph (1779-1852), Nathaniel, Robert, and Samuel Field McIntire. The designs and plans include some of historic buildings in Salem, architectural details, and some plans done by Daniel Bancroft, Joseph True, and Charles Bulfinch. Some plans and receipts both by McIntire and by Thomas Robie and George Heussler relate to buildings built for Elias Hasket and John Derby. Other materials include receipts relating to other members of the Bancroft family, an account book by Francis Boardman for the construction of a house, an inventory of Joseph McIntire's estate (1776), an agreement between Jonathan Mansfield and Joseph McIntire and Samuel Luscomb, copies of a lawsuit between Samuel McIntire and Thomas Thomas, and papers relating to a lawsuit between Eben Lemon and Elias H. Derby. Letters by granddaughter Sarah Field McIntire describe Hampton, New Hampshire.
